Motorola
RAZR Snap-In Adapter installed in a 2001 BMW e46!
Snap-in adapter part #:
84-21-0-415-023

I have successfully installed the Motorola
RAZR V3 snap-in into my 2001 e46. Special thanks the Craig Hoy (Renegade
from bimmerboard.com) who not only picked up the snap-in at a Canadian
dealership for me, but was the man with the steady hand who did the Dremel work
on my eject box (since I'm a butcher with the Dremel tool).
Why is this so significant you ask? A few reasons... (NOTE:
Some info taken from Martin and Craig's posts on bimmerboard.com)
Bluetooth is only supported on BMW's
for 2002 - on. My 2001 should never have been able to accept it.
This is old news though. If you want to relive that, you can see my
install at
http://www.bigpatsfans.com/bt/bluetooth.htm . If you want to buy
the retrofit kit, then go to
www.bimmernav.com and order one from Martin Bishop.
The RAZR snap-in adapter was released
about a month ago. Unfortunately, there are 0 available in the US, a
waiting list of 300 people, and no US release date for the adapter.
The RAZR snap-in adapter was never meant to fit the non-Bangle cars. Look at the following chart. The RAZR is meant for the new 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 series. The e46, e39, X3, X5 snap-ins are too narrow to fit the RAZR snap-in, so they are listed as not compatible:

In order to get the snap-in adapter to fit in non- I-Drive cars, the eject box must be modified. That part number was designed by Motorola for the I drive cars. Here is a pic that shows it in the E60 snap in adapter:

The adapter is 2 and 9/16 wide. The
console adapter space is 2 and 5/16 wide. With a little plastic surgery it will
be possible to have the RAZR adapter fit in the console holder. Here are pics of
the Dremel work needed to make the snap-in fit. NOTE: The best way
to do this is to modify the eject box, not the RAZR snap-in adpater. You
can barely see the Dremel work if you do a good job like Craig did

!
